70s: 3 young employees, 2 of them workers at ITCO (today INDER) and the other worked in a banana company in a rural area, specifically in the canton of Pococí, fighters, community leaders and dreamers, decide to join forces, capabilities and vision to create your own business. Today, 40 years later, its initial business has been transformed, it is a consolidated company, a benchmark for rural success at a national level, with international expansion in the region.

GROWTH
Don José Alberto Castillo Calvo at that time (member of the Cariari Development Association) and Don Salvador Saborío Barrantes (member of the La Rita Development Association) met at an assembly of the cantonal union of associations in Pococí, since then their friendship has not only endured but has also borne great fruit, their alliance, vision, hard work, business management and unconditional enrollment of their family environment.

Don Juan Bonilla Sánchez, one of the 3 young people who started this company, always tells how they gave it a name: “Castillo told me why we didn’t start a small business called “El Colono”, because, like Cariari, it was called Colonia Kennedy. , that way people would feel closer to us.”

On Saturday, December 23, 1978, Agro Servicios El Colono SRL opened for the first time in a 4×4 square meter space, where only agricultural products were sold.

El Colono Agropecuario began with the opening of its first warehouse on December 23, 1978. It began with the marketing of agricultural products, although during the expansion process it also sold products aimed at other sectors such as construction, in this way it They developed the El Colono Warehouses, which currently bear the name of Colono Construction. It was not until the year 2000 that it was decided to specialize in purely agricultural points of sale and thus the Agricultural Colono was born.
